Red Dress

Mike de Velta (©2010)

An original folk song played on ukulele. Red Dress, a tale of getting hooked up with that pretty woman you meet at a party which inevitably leads to heartache and despair.

Well I first met Jenny
at a party one night
dancing to the boys by a pale moon light
I poured another drink
to the beat of that song
she moved so sweet
with the Red Dress on

I woke up to find her lying in my bed
barely remember all the words that we said
we packed our bags and it was time to go
in a wink of an eye we’re down in Mexico

(chorus)
Oh Oh With the Red Dress on
Stole my heart and now my mind has gone
Oh Oh With the Red Dress on
Never thought a woman could ever be
be that strong.

Now love is blind
but love is blinder
if you follow that road
it’s goin to burn down inside ya
thought I was wise
but i knew she was wiser
left me tied up with my legal advisor

Oh Oh With the Red Dress on
Stole my heart and now my mind has gone
Oh Oh With the Red Dress on
Never thought a woman could ever be
be that strong.

Took another job just to pay my own way
seems real hard with these bills I have to pay
Jenny took the house and the brand new car
Even stole my money from my ol fruit jar

(chorus)

It’s late at night
and I don’t feel well
Jenny spent her time at a local hotel
with a guy she met at a party one
dancing to the boys by a pale moon light

(Chorus to out)

Fuller’s Hill Video

Fuller’s Hill is an original instrumental played on ukulele by Mike de Velta. The title is dedicated to Blind Boy Fuller who inspired me to use an alternating picking technique and apply it to the uke in an unconventional way.
I recorded it with an Sm57 through a Great River Preamp and a Daking FETII Compressor. Sound was processed with Pro tools.

Ukulele Magic, a Sonata

A new composition titled, Ukulele Sonata, inspired by the possibilities of alternate finger picking on a soprano ukulele, especially with the top string being strung an octave higher it almost has an upside down effect and stimulates the ear into thinking there is a whole lot more going on.

You tube description

An original gentle finger-style instrumental titled, “Ukulele Sonata” played on a Soprano Kamaka Ukulele by multi instrumentalist and recording artist Mike de Velta.
The delicate tones of this outstanding instrument are captured through a Great River preamp and a Rode K2 specifically in mono for youtube.
Processing done with Pro tools 7.4, Sonnox Eq, PSP Vintage Warmer, Massey Limiter and Lexicon Reverb

I hope you enjoy it, please comment if you do, I would love to hear from you.
