Ukulele Magic, a Sonata
A new composition titled, Ukulele Sonata, inspired by the possibilities of alternate finger picking on a soprano ukulele, especially with the top string being strung an octave higher it almost has an upside down effect and stimulates the ear into thinking there is a whole lot more going on.
You tube description
An original gentle finger-style instrumental titled, “Ukulele Sonata” played on a Soprano Kamaka Ukulele by multi instrumentalist and recording artist Mike de Velta.
The delicate tones of this outstanding instrument are captured through a Great River preamp and a Rode K2 specifically in mono for youtube.
Processing done with Pro tools 7.4, Sonnox Eq, PSP Vintage Warmer, Massey Limiter and Lexicon Reverb
I hope you enjoy it, please comment if you do, I would love to hear from you.
Live on Radio ABC 720
Live at the Perth ABC 720 studios performing, “I don’t mind at all” with James Lush’s Breakfast Show. Also on the show I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Ricky Grace formerly of the Perth Wildcats and Dale a chef who showed us how to cook the perfect omelet, divine. It was quite an atmosphere with the aroma and sizzle of eggs entwined with the sweet rapport of fun, music and pleasant conversation. A most enjoyable Saturday morning. This is a lofi audio recording captured on Panasonic NV-GS400 camcorder in 16:9 ratio.
Time after time
Cyndi Laupers Time after time is an absolute classic track which has been covered by many artists, Miles Davis’s instrumental version being one of my favourites.
Here is my contribution to the legacy of Time after Time.
This is an instrumental interpretation played on a 53 Les Paul Gold Top all produced in a home studio.
The drums were recorded and played seperately in the studio of Dean Wuksta who appears throughout the clip.
Electronique
Electronique is an instrumental improvisation played by Australian musician/ producer Mike de Velta on an orig 53 Les Paul Gold Top, 50′s Rickenbacker Lap Guitar and Fender Jazz Bass. All recorded in pro tools via Great River preamp and RME converters.
Fairbridge Festival
Hi ya Campers,
What a weekend, and yeh, the rain held off, sort off. Was a close call on the Sunday. As I awoke to the pitta patta of rain in the roof of my panel van my greatest fears were upon me, will my show be washed out? My final show was held at the Wine Bar and it seemed only the brave were found on the muddy Fairbridge tracks in the earlier hours of Sunday morning but there was a break in the weather at about 10.30am, my show was at 11.00. Turns out the Sun gig was fantastic. Sweet memories, lots of smiles and great CD sales. Glad the Frontline album was ready in time.
Other gigs were at the Chapel on the Friday, wow! Acoustilicious! and the new Loft on the Thurs.
Really nice hanging with the other artists back at camp, jamming with Aiden Varro, Saz Lockyer and James (or Jimi).
Thank you to all the organisers and volunteers for a great time, brilliant!
Mike de Velta & Ellis Guitars
Hi guys,
Bit of fun last Thursday with Andrew Ellis form Ellis guitars, we’re currently putting together a series of you tube videos demonstrating his most excellent guitars.
This particular Ellis is a Wiessenborn styled lap. It was recorded in pro tools with a Neumann KM 184 small diagphram condensor and a DI from the sunrise pickup going to a Great River NV-1 preamp. Sweet.
