Cold and Crippled hand, Country Swamp Gospel Blues

Cold and crippled hand Mike de Velta © 2011

White collar black tie
these words are made to hypnotise
Speaking from the pulpit to the flock he’s now misled,
This is the way to heaven people”, and this is what he said
break
“Open your purse and empty your change
it’s time pay the rent’ um…x1 arabic

Well I’ve been chosen the Lord to lead you by the hand
forget him for now while you empty your change
from your cold and crippled hand
a fancy car, a limousine, a mansion on the hill
break
but you know every I dollar earn
goes to the needy, the poor and the ill. Uh huh um…x1 arabic

Well I’m not an unbeliever
my faith is strong and true
but I can’t understand how greedy man
steals money off me and you
“Your a sinner son It ain’t no lie
but ill make you understand
just empty your change and drop it right here
from your cold and crippled hand”

um…x1 arabic , solo x 2

Well I’ve seen you in the paper
I’ve seen you in the news
they say you squandered millions
and all the people you’ve abused
they found a woman in your bed
these drugs they found on you
“But can’t you see,
it ain’t up to me,
it’s what the devil made me do” um…x1 arabic

Well see his shoes they’re shiny
shiny like the sun
but take that robe away from him
He’s just a devil on the run.
But I’m a true believer, it’s a karma thing you see
no man escapes the judgement day
and a life of hypocrisy um…x1 arabic

Well I’m not an unbeliever
my faith is strong and true
but I can’t understand how a greedy man
steals money off me and you yeh
“Your a sinner son
It aint no lie
but ill make you understand
just empty your change and drop it right here
from your cold and crippled hand”

Like a good man should. © Mike de Velta 2011

Said Nobody
knows my woman like I do
I said nobody
knows my woman like I do

She’s the kindest woman
That I ever did meet
she’s the kindest woman
That I ever did meet

I said to my woman
“Oh please please won’t you marry me”
I’m just a humble person
no diamonds dripping of ‘a me

Said, “I’ll treat you right’
said, “I’ll treat you good”
“I wont argue and fight’
“I’ll treat you like a good man should”

solo

Would you carry my baby
settle and make a family
I’ll be a proud ol Daddy
and a’ sweet Mamma you will be

Said Nobody
knows my woman like I do
I said nobody
knows my woman like I do

Said, “I’ll treat you right’
said, “I’ll treat you good”

“I wont argue and fight’
“I’ll treat you like a good man should” x3

There was a time my life was steady
Like a boat on a calming sea
There was a time my life was steady
Like a boat on a calming sea
But that’s been taken away my lord
Since my woman, she gone and left me

Now pain has made me her captive I’m down on my knees and I pray
Now pain has made me her captive I’m down on my knees and I pray
Oh God why d’you steal my woman?
Oh why did you steal her away?

So I packed my bags on a Friday turned my back against the setting sun
So I packed my bags on a Friday turned my back against the setting sun
now my life is shadows and darkness
in a world that’s left me undone

but you lied and you cheated me baby
You know I can’t forgive that crime but you lied and you cheated me baby
You know I can’t forgive that crime
for a love that burned so brightly is now dull as mud and grime

Now the road is broke before me so many nights without you near
Now the road is broken before me so many nights without you near
I can’t bear the thought of you woman
living without you here

but you lied and you cheated me baby
You know I can’t forgive that crime
but you lied and you cheated me baby
You know I can’t forgive that crime
for a love that burned so brightly
is now dull as mud and grime

LYRICS

I am your neighbor
but I am a stranger
nobody knows me
knows my name

I’m a captive
like a bird
Im a captive
in a cage

In my reflection
I see an ol man
through dirty windows
a shadow in the rain

I’m tired of living
feel like I’m sinking
just lil ol me,and my nicotine stain
lil ol me, and my nicotine stain

What has become of my life, and my family,
Oh my wife, my loving wife
my children I can not see
can not see

What has become of my life, and my family,
Oh my wife, my loving wife
my children I can not see
can not see

No body told me
how my life would end
in such helpless misery
now I’m tired, tired and lonely
won’t somebody help me
rescue me
won’t somebody help me
and rescue me

What has become of my life, and my family,
Oh my loving wife
my children I can not see
can not see

Free Wedding Song (Under the Lilac tree) by Mike de Velta©

Just the other day I received an email from an American production company seeking to purchase this track for use in their wedding videos. At that stage I had no digital distribution facility for this song as it is currently being preparing for my next album release.
Unsure of what to do and how much to charge I replied and sent them a free high quality mp3 which they gratefully received but I also included a “paypal donation” link. Well cut a long story short they were very happy with this format and indeed they too provided me with a very generous donation. The moral of the story is that goodwill is alive and well on the internet and perhaps this could be a new model for selling more of my music in the future. So at this time The Wedding Song (under the Lilac Tree) is a FREE to download, no catches.

Would be fantastic to see this song used in many weddings all over the world. In fact it was used for the first time last weekend at my brother in law’s wedding which was quite an honor. Small beginnings hopefully :)

The Wedding Song (Under the Lilac Tree) Mike de Velta ©2011

My sweet delight
my lover and my friend
stay close by my side
until the very end

Though times may be hard
and I am ever poor?
You will be my Queen
and ever I’ll be yours

Will you take my hand
come and marry me
I”ll give you my ring
under the lilac tree

With this lovely ring
I’ll place upon your hand
I’ll write upon the sky
that I am now your man.

And so this life we’ll see
a perfect harmony
a woman and a man
as one as one can be

No man has ever loved
as much as I love you.
No more have I to give
I give my life for you

Will you take my hand
come and marry me
I”ll give you my ring
under the lilac tree

I”ll give you my ring
under the lilac tree
I”ll give you my ring
under the lilac tree

All I ask.

I am the Sun – Deep trance

Well I feel like I’m coming out of the closet with a deep dark secret and it’s with some trepidation I present this new track,
“I am the Sun”.

Is it trance? Is it techno? I just don’t know, I haven’t really kept up to date with all these variations of electronic dance music so I’ll just present it as it is and hope someone out there can classify it’s genre more accurately. “I am the Sun” is  however a far cry from my usual material  and I am reallly keen on getting some feedback if you have the time.

Why, “I am the Sun” as a title? Don’t know, just came out in the adlibs I was doing and it sounded catchy. Also if anyone can understand the Indian Boul dialect and translate the words for me that would be awesome! The vocal samples I used could be saying absolutely anything which is a little unnerving.

Anyway, please enjoy it..it is different, I promise ;) Oh yeah, turn it up, especially if you have a sub woofer!

Pretty White Lies

Dear friends,
Well when the spirit moves, it moves and I’m so happy to introduce yet another song this week. This one I have called, Pretty White Lies, a powerful and emotional ballad.
In fact I actually got all mushy producing this one and cried tears of joy in having felt I had really succeeded in producing something deep and real. This will go down as one of my better works.

Please share it if you like it too :)

Thank you so much for you time.

Oh come on darling
come sit right down
come by my side I know you hunger
for the love we need
like the air we breath
let’s make a lil time for each other

but here comes that that pain again
I’m cryin and I don’t know when
but you stopped loving me
closed your eyes so you couldn’t see
with careful words you’ve bled to me
those pretty white lies

I didn’t let it show
but this hurt you gotta know
burns a fire deep inside me
This guy who’s come along
does he sing you another song
does he lie you down and hold your hand
smile like me, does he understand.

But here comes that that pain again
I’m cryin and I don’t know when
you stopped loving me
closed your eyes so you wouldn’t see
with careful words you bled to me
those pretty white lies

Here comes that that pain again
I’m cryin and I don’t know when
you stopped loving me
closed your eyes so you wouldn’t see
with careful words you bled to me
those pretty white…

Lies…
Lies,
pretty white lies (repeat)

Fuller’s Hill Video

Fuller’s Hill is an original instrumental played on ukulele by Mike de Velta. The title is dedicated to Blind Boy Fuller who inspired me to use an alternating picking technique and apply it to the uke in an unconventional way.
I recorded it with an Sm57 through a Great River Preamp and a Daking FETII Compressor. Sound was processed with Pro tools.
